September 25-27 | 3 ImmersionsDay 1:
Moving through weight
/Rope and SilksFriday September 25th, 6-9pm (3 hours)In this workshop, we explore aerial movement through body weight, discovering what it feels like to move from there, and the possibilities it opens. Here we experience the rope as ground, thinking of gravity not only in relation to the floor, but to the rope itself. We explore weight distribution from shifting and transferring, to moving from and through weight, and how this can be used to generate movement. We tap into Rope Manipulation tools such as Unweighting, used to deliberately generate space, moments of micro-float, therefore a sensation of weightlessness. The weight of this work rests in listening through the body, discovering presence, and exploring the possibilities of movement on the rope. We move through the lens of weight, letting it guide our pathways, uncovering its multiple facets, and experimenting with how it shapes our connection to the rope, the body, and gravity.*Note on enrollment- Multi class cards need to be signed up for in numerical order. So if you sign up for Friday, Saturday, Sunday- Sign up for Friday first etc.
Day 2:
Rope Manipulation - Speaking Knots
/Rope onlySaturday September 26th, 2-5pm (3 hours)Speaking Knots is one of the five core methods in the Rope Manipulation approach that I have developed since my Master studies at DOCH in Sweden. It consists of a series of improvisation tasks aimed at creating confined spaces of research within which practitioners can experiment freely on the aerial apparatus.
The emphasis of such exploration is to train practitioners to speak the language of knots, where knots are opportunities for pathways.
The purpose is to stimulate thinking through movement, developing body intelligence, as well as to encourage conscious and in the moment choice-making, presence, and awareness as we practice and explore.
The objective of this work is to expand technical knowledge of our practice through personal experience.*Note on enrollment- Multi class cards need to be signed up for in numerical order. So if you sign up for Friday, Saturday, Sunday- Sign up for Friday first etc.
Day 3:
Partnering
/Rope & SilksSunday September 27th, 2-5pm (3 hours)This work does not require a partner to sign up. It is based on movement exploration through the rope and the partner, exploring the principles and technical tools necessary to move with someone in the air. The main focus of this work is to go beyond the common knowledge of duo work, tapping into the exploration of alternative routes and the chance to generate new material.
The creative research happens through improvisation tasks aimed at stimulating participants to explore partner work, close connection between two bodies, body weight, and the generation of spaces to create pathways, as well as learning to communicate silently and only through our bodies, instead of verbally.
We travel through a series of exercises that stimulate us to find continuous ways to give and take weight, building trust in our partner, understanding how to communicate and move with one another, as well as experiencing rope from another perspective.
*Note on enrollment- Multi class cards need to be signed up for in numerical order. So if you sign up for Friday, Saturday, Sunday- Sign up for Friday first etc.
